Contemporary landscape photography: Here’s an update on some of the new images from my drive by series. The first shot with the moon is the Super Blood Wolf Moon shot on the 20th January 2019 – The Drive By images are shot mainly at dusk or in the dark from the inside of my car. I drive around looking for interesting images and shoot them through the car windscreen. Shooting through the car windscreen adds a certain painterly effect to the images, especially in the rain or if there’s dirt on the windscreen. Some of these images would work really well as book cover art or record sleeve / album cover art.
I set myself a pretty difficult task here, with this handprinted gum bichromate print. Gum Printing isn’t for the faint-hearted at the best of time. The diptych below is made with 3 CMY colour seperation negatives for each side of the print ( 6 negatives in total ) and multiple layers of watercolour pigment and gum arabic. The biggest problem with a print like this is the registration, making sure each negative will sit in the right position each time I paint on a layer of pigment. The diptych has 4 layers at the moment and I’m contemplating adding another 2 layers, it’s like trying to finish a painting and knowing when to stop, that last brush stroke could take the image to a higher level or it could drop through the doors to hell. It has taken 4 days so far to get the print to this stage. I feel the print is close to what I wanted in the first place but just needs a tiny bit more detail.
Some recent salt prints / albumen prints on handmade albumen paper. Here’s a couple of prints from a recent printing session. If you’d like your work printed as an Albumen print, then please don’t hesitate to call / email me. I can take your digital files, make a negative and print them as a salt albumen print. If you already have a negative that you’d like printed ? please don’t hesitate to call or email me.
